Join ADRSA at KONSABA this August!

The ADRSA is a proud co-sponsor of the Congress of Santa Barbara’s (KOSANBA) upcoming 15th Colloquium entitled Africana Religious Activism, Resistance, and Rejuvenation to be held at Nova Southeastern University August 21-23, 2025. Registration is now open and proposals for presentation are being accepted through May 5th.

The presence, role and importance of Vodou in Haitian history, society and culture are inarguable, and recognizably a part of the national ethos. KOSANBA was founded in 1997 with the mission of increasing scholarship and advocacy around Vodou as the tradition plays and shall continue to play a major role in the grand scheme of Haitian development and in the socio-economic, political, and cultural arenas. More broadly, as ancestral practices are the cornerstone of all successful sociocultural movements, KOSANBA supports and advocates for all Africana religious traditions and welcomes papers, roundtables, and other presentation forms highlighting all traditions of the continent and Diaspora and welcomes all scholars and practitioners of these traditions to fellowship with them.

The 15th convening of KOSANBA seeks to critically examine how Africana religious traditions contribute to activism and social change, as well as how these practices serve as sites of spiritual rejuvenation in the face of ongoing oppression. They invite proposals that explore the role of Africana religions in resistance movements, healing practices, and the reclamation of sacred space and identity within the African Diaspora.
