“In Search of Voodoo” and Orisha Dance to Round Out Conference Weekend

The ADRSA will host its 8th conference this Friday, April 17, 2020. Featuring scholars, practitioners, and a keynote address by Baba John Mason, the conference will center notions of gender and sexuality in Africana religions. Baba John was the Association’s keynote speaker for its inaugural conference in 2013 and we’re delighted to have him back with us. 


Rounding out the weekend, the ADRSA will host screenings of films on African and Diasporic religions, Orisha Song and Movement, and a Surprise event. Films to screen include Djimon Honsou’s 2018 documentary “In Search of Voodoo: Roots to Heaven” and PBS’s “Sacred Journeys: Osun-Osogbo” featuring ADRSA founding director, Iya Dr. Funlayo E. Wood-Menzies. Orisha Song and Movement will be presented by Baba Oludare of Kiirewellness in honor of Oya and Obatala focused on healing our respiratory systems.
